The Palette

My Experience:

My son was right about this pinkish se! t being my kind of palette. Well, I am not sure if I am a romantic person but I know the eye shadows are right up to my alley! They are colourful enough but subdue and soft at the same time. They are exactly the kind of colours that I am into at the moment. Please have a look. :)

Eye Shadow Swatches

These are the very first Napoleon Perdis pressed eye shadows I tried. Before these came along, I had only tried his Loose Dusts. Since I had been wondering about some of Napoleon's Prismatic Eye Shadow Quad, I was quite excited to finally lay my hands on his eye shadows. I was hoping the texture of these eye shadows would be as silky as those Prismatic Eye Shadow Quads.

Unfortunately, I think the texture of the ones in this NP Set isn't as smooth as those in Prismatic Eye Shadow Quads. It's like comparing with Bourjois Blush and Chanel Joues Contraste. They aren't bad, by all means but there is just something short... Get what I mean? It's like when you have flown the First Class all your li! fe and all of the sudden you are downgraded to the Economy Cla! ss...

The colours are good, nevertheless. I have loads of fun playing with them even though I am not creative. Purple and pink have always been my favourite eye shadow shades anyway. There is not one super shimmery colours but nothing matte (except the black I think...) I think the rest fall in the category of satin.

I do have the problem with the eye shadow creasing and fading away after 5 or 6 hours. I used to think such duration length was good enough but not anymore. I have tried more brands to know that some eye shadows don't die on me even after a day's worth. Therefore, this short staying power is the biggest flaw of these eye shadows. But like I said before, more and more eye shadows don't work well for me these days. And maybe a good eye primer should be my next investment. (If you have a good product in mind, please do shout out! But not UDPP please!)

Lip Gloss Swatches

I have to say that I am very impressed by the quality of the lip glosses! They are very comfortable and moisturizing on my lips. And I really like the stickiness as it helps the glosses stay put. I love the texture so much that I actually went back to the store to see if these glosses were sold individually. Unfortunately, no one at the counter knew a thing about the composition. I will look into Napoleon Perdis Lip Glosses in the future. They may be just as good?

In terms of colour, they are sheer but showing enough pigments, which is the way I like with lip products as I don't wear strong colour! s well. Most of the fiery red, purple and browns don't look ri! ght on m e. (Those colours usually make me look aged by 10 years at least!) Therefore, I really enjoy using these lip glosses. The only colour that doesn't look right on me is #3. I tried wearing it solo and I didn't dare to step out of my house! It is just too frosty and cool for my lightly tanned skin... You can have a peek at this hooker-wannabe FOTD. (I am not showing it on my blog as everything on that picture isn't right! Not even the clothes. Nope, I didn't go out in that hideous outfit...)

But you know what's my biggest pet peeve about these glosses? They are only worth few applications and they hit the pan!!! What's up with that??? Even #3, which I don't use alone, is also almost gone... I'd rather they get ! rid of all those craptacular redundant brushes but put in more of the glosses instead. The glosses alone would make me repurchase this palette, seriously.

Blush Swatches

I have to say that I like all the blushes in this palette - well pigmented, soft smooth texture and good staying power in one. They are the kind of go-to colours too, even though they look darker than the usual blush shades I go for. Other than #1 being a shimmery highlighter, the other 3 colours are matte. I think this is the right choice as far as blushes are concerned. You don't want too much shimmers on your cheeks! Oh, #2 and #4 are also good as bronzers or contouring shades as well. I think all 4 are very practical colou! rs.

The packaging is a bit strange. Cheap looking light weight plastic case with sponge filling hidden underneath the woven pink faux leather top. (Faux is such a generous words... It's basically plastic!) My guess it's for anti-shock purpose? But only on one side? What about the bottom? Weird is the word for that... There is a transparent plastic insert to separate the eye shadows ad blushes. Now, that's something you have to keep in place at all time or else the lovely blushes will have black or purple on them.

There is a proper cover for the lip glosses and brushes. I think that ! cover is the best design of the whole packaging as it helps separating the cream and power products. The small brushes are all stored in their own individual compartments too. I'd give this a thumb up even though I still think they should just forget about the brushes and add more of those lovely glosses instead!

The light weight palette is probably meant for traveling but I have to warn you not to trust the flimsy plastic case. It opens up easily and doesn't clip shut tightly at all. I'd suggest you looping the palette with a rubber band if you must bring it on the go or else it's going to open up like a book in your handbag...

There is not much fragrance in any of the products. Maybe more so in the glosses but there isn't enough for me to gag anyway. All in all, this is a fun palette to play with. There are pros and cons and I'd rate the complete palette slightly above average. If the products, particularly the glosses and blushes in this! palette are chosen from Napoleon Perdis regu! lar line , I'd say looking into the individual items if you don't want a thick palette. Besides, the eye shadows are just so-so. You can really live without them. :) On top of it all, toting a palette with a rubber band around isn't very appealing...

Anyway, I am posting only a non-purple/pink FOTD in this post. Please click here for the pink/purple ones, if you wish. Also, unlike the Party and Jet Sets, I don't think the Roma! nce Set is a limited edition as it's not stated so on NP Set site.

Speaking of which, I have not seen the more funky Party Set (limited edition) and the all neutral Jet Set (limited edition! ) locall y but I'd be eager to check them out if they are released. If any of you have tried them, please share your experience with me! :)

That's all for now. I am taking my son to an amusement park by myself this weekend as Mr. Money Smart has left for India on a 10-day training course last night... I miss him already! Anyway, I hope you all have a lovely weekend.
